Singer-songwriter Kate Voegele burst onto the scene back in 2007 with her hit, ‘Only Fooling Myself.’ Since then, Kate’s branched out into acting, appearing on the CW show ‘One Tree Hill,’ and recently tried her hand at fashion, designing a signature series of sunglasses for Oakley. But music will always be Kate’s first love, and that passion is evident on her recently released CD, ‘Gravity Happens.’ We caught up with Kate on the eve of her North American tour and chatted about everything from song inspiration to guilty pleasures. Read on and be prepared to fall in love with this laid-back Ohio girl! So Kate, what would you say is the most personal song on ‘Gravity Happens’?
‘Sandcastles.’ I wrote it when I was moving out to California and when I was having to make a lot of big decisions in my life. The song is about how even though sometimes you just want to be six-years-old again and ‘make sandcastles’ instead of making big decisions, at the end of the day, music can bring you through anything. Music and songwriting was really what brought me through the challenges I went through during that time.
Let’s imagine you’re about to record your next CD, what artist would you love to duet with?
Eddie Vedder. His songwriting and delivery are so hauntingly beautiful every time.
Song inspiration can come from many places. What the craziest thing that’s ever inspired one of your tracks?
My songs are always brought on by the most random things. When I was flying over New York City on a clear day a few years ago, you could see the island of Manhattan perfectly from the sky, and it literally looked like this little Lego sculpture. All I could think about was the irony of how neat and tidy it looked from up high, but how complex those streets really are when you’re on the ground. So I wrote a song called ‘Manhattan from the Sky’ about somebody I wanted to get to know who seemed like they were all neat and tidy from the outside. But I knew on the inside, there were so many amazing complex things to get to know about them, just like Manhattan.
Kate did a live performance and chat on October 12th via Livestream, if you missed it you can watch the rebroadcast below!

September 14 – Beckon Series at Oakley Store Launch (NY)
August – Kate & Parachute Talk on Video Chat
This week, One Tree Hill actress and musician Kate Voegele celebrated the launch of her Oakley KV Signature Series Beckon at the Oakley Soho store in NYC. Designed by Voegele, the chic, oversized frames are detailed with her own hand-drawn graphics lining the stems. “The same artistic vision that inspired my sunglass design inspired my new record, Gravity Happens,” she says. “Lyrics from my songs are woven into the design, and I hand-drew all of the elements because I love that hand-drawn things aren’t perfect.”
The stylish starlet was joined by New York’s finest as she performed hits from her new album Gravity Happens and even covered the hit Britney Spears song “Til The World Ends” for the crowd. Partygoers took a break from NY Fashion Week madness and enjoyed cocktails and conversation while previewing her new signature sunglass as well as Voegele’s original art installations displayed throughout the store.
Every purchase of Voegele’s signature Beckon sunglasses includes a digital download of Gravity Happens.
Kate Voegele is also packing up her vintage red boots, favorite ripped blue jeans, her most comfortable t-shirts and probably a jacket or two as she embarks on a co-headlining fall tour of North America with the band Parachute.
“I want people to get a good feeling in their soul from these songs,” Voegele says of the music that isGravity Happens, her third full-length release. “Roots rock, heartland rock… whatever you want to call it is okay with me. I just want to make people feel good inside.”
And “feel good inside” they will on her fall tour, launching October 10 in Philadelphia and running through November 16 in Wilmington, NC, including stops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and throughout Canada. The tour comes on the heel of a European run in September that included sold-out shows in London, Paris and Dublin. Co-headlining the fall tour of North America will be Parachute, who recently spent the summer on the road with the Goo Goo Dolls. (Source)
